#EBBC16 Dinner and Beer with Jopen in Haarlem

The 2016 European Beer Bloggers & Writers Conference is going to Haarlem for dinner and beers with Jopen Beer!

Haarlem is a beautiful town less than 20 minutes away from Amsterdam. The city is not only known for its glorious history, but also for its small community atmosphere, multitude of art and culture and cosy restaurants and cafés. Jopen Beer is hosting conference attendees for a tour, tastings and beer dinner on Friday, August 19th at the Jopen taproom and then the Jopen Church in Haarlem.

Jopenkerk551nieuwlogoFor centuries, Haarlem was one of the greatest beer brewing cities in the Netherlands. Beer was being shipped all over the world in big 112 litre barrels called ‘Jopen’. Sadly, in 1916 the last brewery closed its doors. In 1994, inspired by the brewing history, a group of enthusiastic locals set out to recover Haarlem’s brewing tradition. Recipes from 1407 and 1501 were found and the beer was brewed. On 11 November 1994, the city’s 750th anniversary is heralded with the younger beer, called ‘Hoppenbier’. The start of Jopen!

Divine beers
The rebirth of Hoppenbier was a tremendous success and the adventure continued. Nowadays, Jopen brews quality craft beers, each unique thanks to its story and flavors. A perfect blend of history and innovation. To experiment with beer styles and ingredients we join forces with fellow breweries all over the world to produce Collaboration Brews. And we want to share that with all of you! We strive to bring divine beers in a laid back atmosphere.

Jopen Church
In 2010 the Jopen Church Haarlem opened, a modern city brewery, bar and restaurant. Jopen beer brews divine beer in a former church in the bustling center of Haarlem. Jopen restored the age-old Haarlem brewing tradition to its earlier glory. You can witness the brewing process while you enjoy our Jopen beers, lunch or dinner. With its laid-back atmosphere, contemporary interior and excellent food, this venue makes all its visitors feel right at home.

Jopen taproom
Jopen opened a second brewery and taproom (Jopen Proeflokaal Waarderpolder) in the Waarderpolder, the industrial area of Haarlem. The taproom promises a full experience. It is possible to visit, go on a brewery tour and drink our beer in the nearby tasting room. The tour of the Jopen brewery will explain the beer making process from start to finish. Come and explore behind the scenes and discover how we create our award-winning beers.

Contact Jopen at info@jopenbier.nl for more information about their beers and head over to Untappd/RateBeer and rate their beers!

2016 European Beer Bloggers & Writers Conference to Take Place in Amsterdam

The 2016 European Beer Bloggers & Writers Conference will take place in Amsterdam, August 19 & 20

As many know, the city is amazing for tourism, has an outstanding beer culture, and is, therefore, a great location for a beer writing and blogging event like ours. The city is the base of around fifteen breweries and plenty of great beer bars/cafes. We hope beer bloggers and writers from around the globe will register to attend and join us in this outstanding location in 2016.

The Mercure Hotel Amsterdam City will host the conference. This four-star property is easy to get to, has the space we need, and also happens to share our great interest in beer. Attendees will receive a special beer media rate of €109 including breakfast and city tax for a single room and €129 including breakfast and city tax for a double room – which is an excellent rate for this time of year in Amsterdam. Book your Hotel soon at this special rate!

Of course, the beer is of primary importance. We are excited to once again be partnering with long-time supporters of beer bloggers and writers from around the world, Pilsner Urquell, host of Saturday’s dinner. Bier & cO, a European Craft Beer Distributor with a great story, will partner with and provide ten unique craft beers from the Kingdom of the Netherlands for Live Beer Blogging. We are also working to finalize a beer pairing lunch, two evening pub crawls, and pre & post-con excursions. Based on the popularity of last year’s final-minute decision to invite attendees to share some of their favorite bottles we have made the “Bottle Share” official by adding it the agenda.

Next week we will post a Call for Content here. We look forward to everyone’s ideas and suggestions for interesting topics and potential presenters. The 2015 Five-Minute Blogger & Writer Reports were one of the highest rated sessions so this will again be included.

Finally, we do want to say that we recognize this announcement should have came sooner. We appreciate your patience with us as we have worked hard to determine a location and date for the sixth annual event. There is a lot of work that goes into creating a conference like this but the most important part of the conference is its attendees and we sincerely hope everyone will join us in Amsterdam, August 19 & 20, 2016. Proost!

The building is a landmark in Brussels, dating from the 18th century, while the food is adapted to today’s taste.

The building used to be the marvelous Hôtel de la Poste. In the dining room we are sure that your eye will be immediately attracted to the ceiling…

And then there is the food… Original, high-quality products are chosen for every dish and a very national touch is given through the addition of beer. All these characteristics make Belga Queen a true ambassador of genuine Belgian Cuisine. The menu of the restaurant reflects 39 years of experience of the host and we can ensure you all your senses will get stimulated: taste, touch, hearing, sight and smell.

Elite.BFBBelgian Family Brewers @belfambrewers is offering you a three course seated diner paired with an impressive selection of 22 beers all carrying the BFB logo.  Several representatives from each brewery will join the bloggers and writers for dinner. For The First Time In History Each Of The Twenty-two Belgian Family Brewers Master Brewers Come Together For One Event

On the evening of Friday, August 28th, The Belgian Family Brewers (BFB) are going to party with the 2015 Beer Bloggers & Writers Conference attendees! No need to put on your dancing shoes but do not let anyone get in your way if you havElite.BFBe the moves of Fred Astaire.  For The First Time In History, The Belgian Family Brewers are bringing together each of the twenty-two Belgian Family Brewers Master Brewers for one event! The family is giving Beer Bloggers & Writers a unique chance to meet, talk , and have a beer with the top notch of the Belgian Beer Industry. Maybe this will make you feel like dancing after all…

For @BelFamBrewers, it is truly all about family. The members of BFB’s are Belgian breweries who have been brewing beer in the same family for at least 50 years. Together they represent 3500 years of experience in traditional beer brewing. Their objective is to promote historic, independent family brewing. Truly a worthy cause, as brewing is a skill, a craft even, that has been passed down from generation to generation.

Of course they want to keep their history alive and but they also recognize that they need to stay on top of their game to do so. They have to continue to innovate and always use the finest ingredients and top equipment. Perhaps more important however is that the families need to always work with the greatest people.

One of the key persons in every brewery is the Master Brewer. He or she is the one with all of the knowledge about the latest trends in brewing processes and technologies. This is the person who knows everything about the hops, malt and grains. Want to know the details about yeast and fermentation for every beer in the brewery? The Master Brewer knows.

The Beer Bloggers & Writers who are attending #EBBC15 will have the unique opportunity to meet, speak with and have a beer with the twenty-two Belgian Family Brewers Master Brewers during the Private #EBBC15 Event at Brussels’s Delirium Café. After a day of educational sessions, tasting, and what will surely be an incredible dinner at the Belga Queen, the experience continues. Keep those hash tags ready along with your cameras, note pads, palate and most certainly your questions for the ones who know best: The Master Brewers.

This private event starts immediately after the private dinner at the Belga Queen on Friday, August 28th. #EBBC15 Registered Bloggers & Writers will walk to the dinner from the Hotel Marivaux and from dinner they will walk to deliriumcafeThe Delirium. Each location is a short distance from each other and the hotel. The Delirium Event will start around 9PM. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste and explore twenty-two different beers with the twenty-two Master Brewers of those beers through 11PM that evening.

2015 European Beer Bloggers Conference Heading to Brussels, Belgium

We are excited to announce the 2015 European Beer Bloggers Conference will take place in Brussels, Belgium on Friday, August 28th and Saturday, August 29th. Registration is open now.BBC15

The conference agenda is coming together nicely. Live Beer Blogging will be hosted by the Belgian Family Brewers. Visit Flanders, a regional tourism organization, will host Saturday’s lunch featuring Belgian foods paired with Belgian beers from some smaller producers. Our friends at Pilsner Urquell continue to support Beer Bloggers around the world as this year’s host of Saturday’s dinner. The Belgian Family Brewers will host dinner and a post-dinner event in Brussels on Friday evening. The conference will feature a pre-conference excursion organized by the Belgian Family Brewers and three options for a post-conference experience hosted by Visit Flanders. Our process of assigning good content and content providers is off to a good start as well with strong partners in the region, an active advisory board and a process that will allow us to understand what it is our attendees want to hear.

Belgium is known for many things but perhaps it is most famously known for its beer. Beer in Belgium dates back to the age of the first crusades in the 1100’s and the country has enjoyed an unparalleled reputation for specialty beers ever since. Today a vibrant tradition of beer remains strong within the Belgian culture. This culture and what truly is an absolutely amazing selection of outstanding and unique beers to choose from at many of the beer cafés and breweries make Belgium an ideal location for the 2015 European Beer Bloggers Conference.

The Kingdom of Belgium is a relatively small country of about 30,530 square kilometers but for what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in diversity and global significance. It is the founding member of the European Union and Brussels hosts the headquarters of the EU, NATO and several other important international and national organizations including one of the oldest associations in the world, The Belgian Brewers.

Conference attendees from around the world will find Brussels an easy location to reach. Most Europeans can travel via rail, including the high speed rail to Brussels. Those coming from outside of Europe should find plenty of good flight options to and from Brussels International (BRU) and if not they may want to look into flying into Amsterdam or Paris from which they can take the high speed rail. The Hotel Marivaux, our conference venue, is easy to get to from the train station or the airport. It is centrally located and offers our attendees excellent rates.

This year the European Beer Bloggers Conference has an Elite Partnership with the Belgian Family Brewers. They have done a lot to help us bring the event to their country and we will be working closely with them to assure our attendees experience an agenda full of strong content and excellent beer.

“Belgium is one of the only countries in the world that can claim an extremely Elite.BFBrich and diverse heritage in beer. The craftsmanship, knowhow and traditions have been passed on from generation to generation for many centuries. As the President of the Belgian Family Brewers, I am looking forward to welcoming you next summer in Belgium at the occasion of the 2015 European Beer Bloggers Conference. We are delighted to host the 2015 edition as an Elite Partner and are excited to present you the unique story of our Association with its 22 family breweries!

It is our conviction that you will be enchanted by our passion and beer culture throughout the EBBC15 program! We are all looking forward to seeing you in a few months from now…!” – Xavier Vanneste, President Belgian Family Brewers

We are looking forward to the 2015 European Beer Bloggers Conference, the beers of Belgium and beyond, and to sharing the experience with the attending beer media. Attendees have until February 28th to register for the event at a lower rate; prices increase on March 1. Space is limited so we encourage participants to take advantage of that rate and to register sooner rather than later. Santé
