About the Beer Bloggers & Writers Conference
The Beer Bloggers & Writers Conference is now in its eighth year, having started with an initial conference in 2010 in Boulder, Colorado. The conference attracts approximately 130 attendees from throughout North America to network, learn, and taste beers. For a glimpse into the conference, see this video from the first-ever conference.
Host Location: Milwaukee
In determining where to locate the conference, we look at dozens of potential locations and include a number of criteria. The will of our attendees is very important but, sometimes, we also like to choose interesting places that are full of beer history and have phenomenal beer scenes. Milwaukee has an abundance of both and we are really excited to be there and know attendees will also.
Another primary consideration is the local flavor … how can you not want to come and hang out with these guys?
Milwaukee used to be known as the “beer capital of the world”. With breweries popping up in the city as early as the 1840s, the city was eventually home to four major brewing giants: Pabst, Blatz, Miller, and Schlitz. And we will revel in that history, with our conference taking place at the historic Pabst Brewery and with one dinner taking place at the MillerCoors brewery, which has over 1,200 employees and brews up to 10 million gallons of beer per year.
But times have changed and Milwaukee is well entrenched in the beer revolution. We’ll not only drink beers from many of the newer brewery entrants but also visit three smaller breweries during the conference. Included in our stops are Lakefront Brewery for a tour and tasting, Good City Brewing for dinner, and Brenner Brewing for a post-dinner party.
Who Should Attend
- Citizen Bloggers and Writers who write about beer or the beer industry.
- Industry Bloggers who have a blog related to their brewery or other beer industry business.
- Digital Media Innovators who work in the world of blogging and social media.
- Beer Industry members who would like to learn about digital media or interact with bloggers and writers in attendance.
Cost, Payment, Cancellation, and What is Included
The cost of the conference is $145 for Citizen Bloggers, and $395 for Beer Industry attendees and others.
Citizen Beer Bloggers (those unaffiliated with a business or organization other than a media outlet) pay a reduced rate if you agree to write at least two blog posts about the conference. What you write about is up to you – the conference itself, a sponsor, a beer you try, the content, etc. Industry bloggers (those connected to a business or other organization) pay a partially reduced rate if you agree to write at least one blog post about the conference. If you choose not to accept this condition, you are free to register at the General Registration rate.
To sign up as a blogger, you must have an active (at least three current posts) blog that has been in existence at least three months. You must be listed as a contributor on the blog. Friends and spouses you wish to bring with you who are not clearly identified on your blog as part of the team need to sign up under the general registration category. Please be accurate in selecting your category as we will confirm your status and it takes both of us a lot of time if we have to contact you.
Published beer writers are considered Citizen Bloggers & Writers even if they do not have an online blog.
The conference includes multiple beer tastings, two dinners, one or two lunches (pending sponsorship), and outstanding content. Not included in the conference price are your hotel, transportation to and from Milwaukee, and personal expenses. We have an optional post-conference excursion; cost is $25 (citizen) or $50 (industry) and includes some meals and transportation but not hotel and airport shuttle.
The conference will take place at Best Place, site of the historic Pabst brewery. Pabst was the first of the major Milwaukee breweries and grew to become America’s largest brewer from the late 1800s until 1946. The venue has now been converted to an event space and will be the perfect location for a beer conference.
The Conference Hotel
We have reserved a room block at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center, right in the heart of the city and a 20-minute walk from Best Place. Attendees have been offered a rate of only $129 for a standard or double room. You can make your BBC17 hotel reservations now by calling 414-935-5940 and letting them know you are with the Beer Bloggers & Writers Conference or book online here. Please keep in mind our room block is not big enough to host everyone at the conference and it will sell out.
Transportation: Arrival and Departure
Milwaukee Airport (MKE) is a major airport with many connections.
Please note! Attendees who would like to do the post-con excursion should plan to fly into MKE and out of GRR. To learn about the post-conference excursion and to register, read here.
